IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Roosevelt
Mckinney
December 19, 1940 – February 27, 2022
He was born to Elois E. Proctor and Mack McKinney on Thursday, December 19, 1940. Both preceded him in death, as did his grandmother, Mary A. Proctor. Roosevelt had a special relationship with his mother. He attended Booker T. Washington Elementary and graduated in 1960 from Solomon M. Coles High School, where he was very active in basketball and football. He received a scholarship from the University of New Mexico, the First Black Quarterback. We all attended and joined St. Paul United Methodist Church during our teen years. His desire was to be buried in Corpus Christi, Texas, and have his services at St. Paul. From his first marriage, three children were born: Rhonda, Reginald (preceded him in death), and Ron. In August 1991, he moved to Iowa City, Iowa, where he met and married his present wife, Ann. On December 28, 1996, they exchanged vows. They became Foster Parents and later adopted four of the children they previously fostered. At his death, he was a long-standing member of Bethel A. M. E. Church and served as a Trustee. He also volunteered many years at The Homeless Children's Trust, where he helped with a city-wide Christmas Party and supplied school supplies for the children and parents. He served on the Board of Directors of the Iowa City Shelter. He leaves to mourn and celebrate his life with his wife Ann his children Rhonda, Ron, Max, Anna, Princeton, and Hosanna. His siblings: Waddell (Patricia), Bennel, and Stanley (Rita). A host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, along with a myriad of friends and acquaintances.
