Norvell Nobel Shelton, affectionately known as "Big Mama," was born July 4, 1921, in McFadden, TX. Big Mama, one of seventeen children, was born to the union of Adley and Cynthia Nobel. Big Mama departed from her earthly home on February 5, 2024. She was surrounded by her devoted health care provider, Mellissa Quintanilla, Hosanna Medical Care Facility and Hospice Trinity Medical staff. Big Mama moved to Corpus Christi, TX, with her two children Thurlene and Herbert. On January 19,1959 Norvell united in holy matrimony to the late Floyd Shelton. They were blessed to share their love and commitment for 34 years. She began her Christian journey, accepted Christ, and was baptized at an early age. She was a member at St. Paul United Methodist Church, Corpus Christi, TX for several years. She was a loyal member of The Eastern Star's Chapter. Norvell began her work career as a domestic home provider for several families in the Corpus Christi area. Big Mama is preceded in death by her father and mother Adley and Cynthia Nobel; her daughter Thurlene Brown Marshall; her son Herbert Scott; her grandson Gilbert Roberson; her three great-granddaughters Icalette Scott, Rachel and Christina Roberson, and her husband Floyd Shelton. She leaves to cherish her memories, her only living sister Lily Vell Green (Refugio, TX), her Granddaughter Mamie Spears Roberson of San Antonio, TX, her 4 grandsons Stacy (Rose) Marshall, Sr., Norris L. (Dawn) Marshall of Corpus Christi, TX; Rodney and Timothy Scott of Houston, TX. Her legacy will continue through her 7 Great- Grandchildren, 14 Great-Great-Grandchildren, 1 Great-Great-Great-Grandchild: a Special Niece Ire Mae Green, and a host of other relatives and friends.
