Obituary

Clarence "Chuck" Rush, Jr. went home to rest with the Lord on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at a hospital in Lake Charles, LA. He was born on November 28, 1957, in Chicago, Illinois to Rev. Dr. Clarence Rush, Sr. and Doris Priscilla Dennis. Chuck was a loving father, brother, uncle, grandfather and friend who trusted the Lord for his life. He enjoyed having fun with family and friends when he wasn't working and brought joy and laughter to everyone gathered at any event. Chuck received his early education at Lafayette Elementary School in New Orleans, LA; and graduated from Roy Miller High School, Corpus Christi, Texas in 1975. Chuck accepted Jesus Christ at an early age and was baptized at Bethel A.M.E. Church, New Orleans, LA. When his family moved to Corpus Christi, Texas in August 1972 he joined Brooks A. M. E. Worship Center (formerly Brooks Chapel) where he was a faithful member. After graduation he joined the United States Navy in September 1976 where he received an Honorable Discharge. He was actively employed for several years and then found the trade that launched him into a career he truly enjoyed for life. In 1998 he became a Longshoremen and was a devoted and loyal worker for 24 years traveling from Corpus Christi, Beaumont, Houston, Port Arthur, and Lake Charles. Chuck served as a member of the ILA Local 24, in Lake Charles, Louisiana, and ILA Local 26, in Corpus Christi, TX until he retired in 2022. Proverbs 18:24b reads "There is a friend who sticks closer than a brother." Chuck found that friend in Gregory "Greg" Smith of Dallas, TX. They were inseparable despite working in two different fields and often being far away from each other. Yet, they always managed to stay closely connected making sure to strengthen that bond as friends. Thank you, Greg, for your love and friendship. He was preceded in death by his parents, Doris Priscilla Dennis, and Rev. Dr. Clarence Rush, Sr.; his grandparents, Matthew Williams, Nancy Scie; and Naomi Williams. Chuck is survived by his wife, Jackie Cooper Rush of Lake Charles, LA; three brothers Edwin W. Dennis, III of Corpus Christi, TX; Darius Jackson of Atlanta, GA; Charles Jackson of Wilmington, NC; four sisters Rev. Claudia M.
